2024/03/20-24 – Amrit Shahi and Sibgat Mehedi Hasan delivered two presentations and two posters, and Dr. Choi moderated two sessions at the ASCE’s CI & CRC Joint Conference in Des Moines, IA. Many academics attended the presentations and stopped by the posters. 

2024/03/29 – Dr. Choi successfully delivered a presentation titled “Smart Technologies for Modular Buildings” at the 2024 World of Modular Annual Convention & Tradeshow, Orlando, FL, on March 19, 2024. About 60 practitioners in modular construction were in my session.

2024/03 – Amrit Shahi received a scholarship from the Modular Building Institute (MBI) Educational Foundations to attend the 2024 World of Modular conference. Congrats.

2023/06/27 – During the KACEPMA annual meeting, which about 40 members attended, Dr. Choi received the Oustanding Leadership Award from the Korean-American Construction Engineering and Project Management Association (KACEPMA) on June 27, 2023. It notes, “in recognition of your unwavering dedication and leadership toward the growth and advancement of KACEPMA.”

2023/04/01 – Dr. Choi received the 2023 Modular Building Fellow Award from the Modular Building Institute (MBI) at the 2023 World of Modular Conference, which had over 1,500 registrants, on April 1, 2023, held in the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas, NV. The Modular Building Fellow Award is awarded for leadership, contribution, and commitment to modular construction, recognizing a professor each year that has contributed to advancing commercial modular construction through education and research. MBI stated that they named Dr. Jin Ouk Choi as their 2023 Modular Building Fellow considering his work at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the classroom and lab, his papers and research on modularization, hosting of conferences, his new book, and his support of MBI and the industry, in general.  Five PMCEL students also received the World of Modular Scholarship.

2022/05/18 – Dr. Choi has been recognized as a CMMI Panel Fellow after completing the 2022 (Cohort 2) CMMI Game Changer Academies professional development course by The National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation.

2022/04/28 – Dr. Choi delivered a presentation, “Research: Innovative Technologies and Approaches for Modular Construction,” at the 2022 World of Modular in San Antonio, Texas, on April 28, 2022, at 1:30 pm.

2022/04/21 – Dr. Choi received a Graduate Academic Advisor Award from UNLV. Dr. Choi was recognized at the virtual Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony on April 21, 2022, at 3:00 pm. Dr. Choi appreciates his PMCE lab alumni and students for their hard work and accomplishments. Due to them, Dr. Choi received this award.

2021/05/25 – Good news! Dr. Choi has been selected as an awardee of the 2021 Troesh Research Grants from the Troesh Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Lee Business School.

2021/05/22 – Congratulations! Binit won second place in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering’s Outstanding Dissertation Competition. Some of the reviewers’ comments state: “The research conducted by Mr. Shrestha is novel and can be useful for the construction industry.” “The research resulted in eight peer-reviewed journal papers, with many more in the pipeline. This shows the excellent nature of this work. He has presented at eight national/international conferences, showing his communication prowess and ability to be impromptuly critiqued by the international community in his field.”

2021/04/18 – UNLV Solar Decathlon team, Mojave Bloom (https://www.solardecathlon.gov/2020/build/competition-team-las-vegas.html), which designed and built a net-zero modular house for low-income veterans; which Dr. Choi is co-PI for the project, took third place overall in the Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon 2020 Build Challenge.
